5 Ways – Gratitude

We all want a more fulfilled life, to realize our potential and place and live with purpose, joy and direction. So I thought this week I might tackle 5 ways that have the potential to turn anyone’s life around or at the very least make us more aware of the life we live. I will take on 1 each day this week so stay posted!

The first method we can all use more of and bring into our everyday life is Gratitude.

Gratitude is the glue that keeps things together over the long haul, unfortunately it is one of the first thing we take for granted over the course of living. We get into routines and start taking each day and the people we share it with for granted. Yet gratitude is what reminds us of the good qualities in our life. It reminds us about what is positive and endearing about living out each day.

But even gratitude can get shifted into a selfish expression or self absorbed state of mind. For example we can be grateful for our partners cooking a meal and express that as “thanks for cooking I was really hungry” which is not quite the same as “you’re such a great cook, thanks for being thoughtful enough to cook for me!”

When our expressions of gratitude focus on something or someone else we find it’s effects on our life that much more powerful – Not only do we feel better, but those around us feel better as well. So today try to recognize the small things that make a difference in your experiences, the people who make your day possible in some small way. Being grateful in this way gives us an opportunity for reflection and within that opportunity we see our potential.

Develop an attitude of gratitude, and give thanks for everything that happens to you, knowing that every step forward is a step toward achieving something bigger and better than your current situation.

Peace and Love, Jim
