Check in

When we’re serious about making progress in our life, we need to make it a habit to check in and see how well we are doing. By checking in we can objectively see our results. It’s much more motivating when we are able to see and celebrate the progress we’re making. When we do not check in with ourselves we often go off track and fall into our old habits and patterns. By simply stopping and asking our self what we are doing and where are we heading we can correct our course when we wobble and continue along our path.

Checking in is as easy as asking a few simple questions each day. The more often we check in the easier it gets. Here are six statements I have personally found that make it easier to check in each day and gain more clarity:

Am I willing to do the required work?

I am self-aware of why I am doing this work?

Does what I am about to do energize me and have a positive impact on my life?

Am I taking meaningful action?

Am I seeing new possibilities?

If you find yourself answering “no” to many of these on a daily basis you may want to evaluate what you are doing and the toll it may taking on you overall feelings of wellness and contentment. Sure we all have do things that we do not enjoy or particularly feel beneficial but those should be the smaller part of our day and not the majority of our feelings.

Doing things that create stress and negativity in our life are the surest way to feeling drained, unfulfilled and emotionally detached. We begin to live for the weekend or the moments when we no longer have to do the actions that remove us from our genuine sense of joy and wellness.

So honestly check in with your self, ask the questions and plot your course accordingly. This is no dress rehearsal so if you don’t like the part you play it may be time to seek another role in the play we call life!
