Friends

One of the natural desires of the human heart is friendship. Friends are something that supports your life from the beginning and through the end. Many of us like to think we are strong loner types with very little need for others in our life or as long as we have family and spouses we may feel we don’t need much interaction with others.

Yet have we really stopped and thought about what it would mean to not have friends? Or not have others (those we may not consider friends) in our life?

Without friends, you cannot count on having immediate help. When you fall, no one is there to assist or support your efforts to get back up.

Without friends to pitch in when you are behind, whether it is a buddy in school helping with homework, or a capable person helping to help move a piano, many tasks take longer to do alone, and the lack of help will make all tasks seem that much longer.

Sure you have a mirror to get dressed and groomed by, but mirrors don’t have taste or helpful points of view. Friends can be the best mirrors without them there will be no one to tap you on the shoulder to tell you your “fly is open”, your shoe is untied or your bra strap is showing.

We all ultimately must solve our own problems and walk our own path, but the joy and company of others along the way should never be underestimated or taken for granted.

So today appreciate and cherish the those in your life. Life is partly what we make it, and partly what it is made by the friends we choose.

Peace and Love, Jim
