Adversity gives birth to greatness.
The greater the challenges and difficulties we face, the greater opportunity we have to grow and develop as people. A life without adversity, a life of ease and comfort, produces nothing more than temporary satisfaction and leaves us with nothing but more fleeting desires.
So let us seek balance and not readily avoid or dispense with our challenges and adversities. Without adversity, there can be nothing to compare joy to. Adversity helps us to recognize, appreciate, and celebrate the joys in life. According to texts the Buddha’s awakening occurred when he realized the key to peace and well-being is to accept life as it is, including the sorrows and joys.
