Buddhist Basics. . .

It’s a new year and many of us often take a break and refresh our ives in ways large and small to celebrate making it another year. So today we do a quick refresher on a Buddhist Practice.

A few quick Buddhist thoughts and tips include: practice mindfulness in daily activities by focusing on your breath, be kind to yourself and others, observe thoughts without judgment, let go of attachment to desires, and follow the Five Precepts (not harming, not stealing, not lying, not engaging in sexual misconduct, and avoiding intoxicants)..

Key points to remember:

Mindfulness: Pay attention to the present moment without judgment, noticing your thoughts, feelings, and sensations as they arise.
Compassion: Cultivate kindness and understanding towards yourself and others.
Non-attachment: Recognize that everything is impermanent and avoid clinging to desires or outcomes.

Right Speech: Be mindful of your words and avoid harmful speech.

Right Action: Act with ethical awareness, avoiding harmful actions.

Simple practices to incorporate:

Meditation: Spend a few minutes each day focusing on your breath, gently bringing your attention back when your mind wanders.
Mindful eating:

Pay attention to the taste, texture, and sensations of your food while eating.
Walking meditation:

Focus on the sensation of your feet touching the ground as you walk.

Gratitude practice: Take time to appreciate the good things in your life. This is your journey and deciding to do something with it is the magic of the steps you take on it.

Peace and Love, Jim
