Todays post comes to us fro Daily Buddha Contributor Steven Beyer:
I just finished listening to a song sung by Jill Scott called, “ Living your Life Like It’s Golden”. Taking a moment to consider those words, I realized how gold is such a precious commodity and what that term really means. In essence each of our lives is like gold, precious, more precious than the most priceless gems and here is why.
From the moment we are born we have a death sentence placed upon us. I know this may sound morbid to some, but the sad fact is; babies die, young men die, an old men die. White, black, green yellow or orange. It makes no difference what sex, race, creed, color or income level we are at. In the end we all have that one truth in common….we eventually die. Is this a dreary and grim thought or something that frees us to live as never before? That is for each of us to decide.
But here is a very important point to remember as well …… you’re dead a long time. In fact the reality is that you’ll be dead a lot longer than your alive. That could be a sobering, scary intimidating thought to some. Quite honestly, as a child, that thought used to make me cry.
However, now, through meditation, contemplation and living life, I look at this fact as extremely freeing. It frees you to live life to the fullest. To realize this point brings enlightened awareness as to just how important that each day, each moment, each breath is. More precious than anything, anytime, anywhere. So my friends, live your life like it’s golden and when you’re done, when you’re time here on earth is finished, you can say you lived it to the fullest.
Be well, live well… there is no other way.
