The efforts made by one individual can be immensely important. The Buddha repeatedly stated that victory depends not on numbers but on a individual’s attitude or resolve. In one passage he writes: “Everyone, from the sovereign on down to the common people, all without exception have tried to control their people and my teachings . This is because, although I am alone, I have firm faith [in the Lotus Sutra, MW-3, 198).
In other words, The Buddha’s strong faith in what he has learned through taking on life within each moment, enabled him to emerge informed with compassion, understanding and triumphant. I find this passage deeply moving and hope that we all can grown within our own light.
