Green Spaces. . .

Research show how we benefit socially, psychologically, and physically from spending time in nature. Green spaces reduce social conflict, increase mental health, lower blood pressure, and improve immunity.

I love riding my bike so much that I have night clothing and gear that allow me to ride in the winter months as well as warmer seasons. So I got outside, caught a bit of sunlight, enjoyed some fresh air, filled my vision with plant life, gazed at distant parks and views, heard birds chirping, took in the smells of the park, and said hello to a few strangers. I did not regret it.

The key takeaway here is that I probably wouldn’t have gone outside if I hadn’t invested in the attitude and gear that would make it possible. The thought of riding outside probably would not have happened without my attitude and investment in me and my joy. I already knew about the benefits of spending time in nature, but I needed help remembering what I knew. And if the thought had occurred, my bias toward convenience and comfort would have made me less likely to choose outdoor biking.

Being reminded of the benefits of nature and my joy of riding helped me overcome this bias and embrace not only the colder months but the mindset of pushing myself just a little bit out of my comfort zone and into the beauty of rolling through life with others on the same path.

Peace and Love, Jim
