Lists. . .
Our minds are basically thinking machines, thats what a mind is designed to do and thats what it will do all on its own. If you want to really benefit from this amazing action then you have to recognize it, refine the skills and direct the amazing mind.
If you begin with thinking of all the things you are grateful for, Here is a new practice that has proven to be an excellent way to start the day. Each morning, after a bit of coffee/tea and general “wake up” time, make your way to a favorite spot, get out a designated journal (don’t have one? you should) – and make a list. Not a list of everything you need to do that day – it’s a gratitude list.
What’s a gratitude list Jim?
Exactly what it sounds like, a gratitude list is a short, sweet list of all the things you’re feeling particularly grateful for that morning. It may be a more recent, flippant item (like, “I’m grateful for the delicious dinner I had last night”), or something that’s a meaningful, consistent part of your life (“I’m grateful for my supportive family/my husband/my health”). I’ve found that starting my days by making these lists really helps set a positive intention for my days, and puts me in a more grounded, appreciative state of mind.
And the best part about it? It only takes about two minutes! Give it a try tomorrow morning and let me know how you feel afterward!
Peace and Love, Jim
