We can consider life through many means and metaphors; I have often thought of life in the context of a mirror.

Every person’s life is like a brilliantly shining mirror. The very nature of a mirror is glass made up of millions of bits of silica, compressed, refined and bound together. Differences arise depending on whether one polishes this mirror.

A polished mirror is the result of removing the haze, the fingerprints and environmental buildup that occurs with the passing of time life, whereas a tarnished mirror is that of a unattended life with no looking into and below the surface of the reflection. In fact both in real life and in metaphor, many people do not like to look into a mirror.

When I think on the metaphors of a mirror and apply it to life I always recall a quote that touched me in college: Life is a mirror and will reflect back to the thinker what he thinks into it. – Ernest Holmes
