Outside. . .
Sometime back we had an intern at work who was from South Africa. The difference in our cultures made for some very interesting and enlightening conversations. One such conversation was her observation on how we here in America seem to only love those things that are most like us, or we tend to only pursue the sure thing. Although this was a generality, there seemed to be a small grain of truth in her observations.
We do tend to play it safe and we do seem to localize our love and efforts to our own inner circles. There are time times though when we must go outside these boundaries and do something extraordinary, we must push ahead no matter how uncomfortable the task and do it anyway. . . People can be unreasonable, illogical and self centered. Love them anyway. If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives. Do good anyway. If you are successtul, you will win false friends and true enemies. Succeed anyway.
The kindness you show today will be forgotten tomorrow. Be kind anyway. Honesty and frankness will make you vulnerable. Be honest and frank anyway. The biggest person with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest person with the smallest mind. Think big anyway. What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight. Build anyway. People really need help, but may attach you if you help them. Help people anyway. Give the world the best you’ve got, and you might get kicked in the teeth.
Give the world the best you’ve got anyway. Have a wonderful day and keep this in mind: It is not because things are difficult that we do not dare; it is because we do not dare that things seem so difficult.
Peace and Love, Jim
