Buddhism is reason. It is vital, therefore, that our lives and our activities in society also accord with reason.

I was recently asked several questions about my post on faith – What is faith? What should we have faith in?

Yes on the surface its a complex concept but what if we boil it down to this – Faith equals daily life. We can place faith in doing our best, we can place faith in our abilities to grow, show trust, respect others and learn. Bringing fragrant flowers of trust and humanism to bloom throughout our society is one of the goals of Buddhism. To embrace the fact that we all share this gift called life is the greatest equalizer we can embrace AND teach.  So let our ability to reason give us a glimpse of reason and we see that at the heart of understanding is love.

Unconditional love really exists in each of us. It is part of our deep inner being. It is not so much an active emotion as a state of being. It’s not ‘I love you’ for this or that reason, not ‘I love you if you love me.’ It’s love for no reason, love without an object. It becomes reason.

Peace and Love, Jim
