Small Steps. . .
“There are only two mistakes one can make along the road to truth; not going all the way, and not starting.” – The Buddha
While it’s typically easy to set goals, it can be a challenge knowing what goals we actually, in our heart of hearts, want to pursue. People often set goals for themselves that have been governed by what others around them find valuable, or the pressure and/or praise they received from adults and peers in their lives growing up. We tend to assume we really want the things we have been told are worth wanting, then falling victim to blind ambition devoid of genuine passion.
An insurmountable task or objective isn’t as overwhelming when take small steps everyday. Write down small goals for each day or month of the year, and what you need to do make it happen. Then go do it in small but meaningful steps. Its important to understand the value of your steps over the end results of your goals. We can learn just as much, if not more from the process used and the mindset that drives our actions than we we often can from reaching the proverbial finish line.
One thing is for sure: success does not come from sitting on the couch and doing nothing. Once you set your mind to something, be prepared to work feverishly hard at what you want. You will need to make sacrifices…but they’re worth it when you’re following your path and learning along the way.
Peace and Love, Jim
