The Buddha taught people to live with lionlike courage, impressing upon them that they could not afford to leave things up to others, that they had to stand up for themselves and define and honor justice in their own life and the lives of others. Ultimately, the only way forward is by developing self-reliance, forging a strong spirit. That is the only path to victory.
